What is LRC?

Did you know that yard debris accounts for an overwhelming 25% of all waste in Illinois? Luckily there is an ecological and economical method of transforming this waste into products helpful for our environment.

Turn over a new leaf and recycle your yard debris at the Landscape Recycling Center!

The Landscape Recycling Center (LRC) is a not-for-profit facility operated by the Urbana Public Works Department. We provide service to Urbana-Champaign and all of Champaign County. At LRC, we turn your grass clippings, brush and plant cuttings into products that can be used to beautify our local landscape. We offer fertile mulches and composts specially produced to benefit specific types of plants.

The Landscape Recycling Center is open year-round. If visiting LRC, please plan on checking in at the gate 30 minutes prior to closing.

Our hours of operation are scheduled as follows:

Winter Hours (December 19, 2011 through March 2, 2012)
OPEN - 8:00am - 4:00pm, Monday - Friday
CLOSED - Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays

Summer Hours (March 5, 2012 through December 22, 2012)
OPEN - 8:00am - 4:00pm, Monday - Saturday
CLOSED - Sundays and Holidays

Acceptable Materials

Unacceptable Materials

All acceptable materials must be deposited in designated areas by user and SHALL BE FREE OF REFUSE. LRC is required to report any user found disposing of refuse and/or unacceptable material to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency for prosecution. Violators will also be suspended from the site. Drivers are responsible for their loads and shall remove all unacceptable material before dumping.

Fees

The fee for disposal of acceptable material arriving in bulk will be calculated on a basis per cubic yard and rounded to the nearest ½ cubic yard. Please note that quantities less than a cubic yard are automatically charged a minimum fee of $5.00, except commercial compactor and roll-off loads which will be charged for a minimum of 5 cubic yards. Mixed loads will be charged on compact trucks from Feb.-Sept. and Oct.-Jan. compact trucks will be charged as compact trucks clean. All other loads will be determined by attendents discretion. 

*(All bagged material will be rounded to the nearest half cubic yard and must be bagged in paper.)

Please keep in mind that you are responsible for anything you bring to the site and must remove all unacceptable material before dumping.

This intergovernmental facility, its agents and/or employees make no guarantee or warranty of the products available at this facility and assume no liability for any damages that may occur to persons or property while on the site.
