The City of Urbana seeks a professional consultant to develop a study of the public realm in downtown Urbana, Illinois. Urbana is a university community of approximately 40,000 residents and is part of the Champaign-Urbana urbanized area, located in Champaign County. The purpose of the study is to develop realistic, actionable measures to make public spaces in Downtown Urbana more vibrant and active. To that end, the study should include at least two parts: the first part will be a public life study to determine how people interact with Downtown in its present state; the second will be a series of implementation strategies to make Downtown more lively. New Development Proposed at Lincoln and University

Proposed Development "Gather" at University and Lincoln in Urbana, ILDallas-based Rael Development Corporation and the City of Urbana are pleased to announce a proposal for a new mixed-use development at the intersection of University and Lincoln Avenues in the City of Urbana called Gather. Gather will contain approximately 200 apartments, 16 townhomes and 50 extended-stay rooms, along with nearly 15,000 square feet of lobby, retail and outdoor public areas. The project’s configuration, scale and design are the product of much analysis and collaboration between the developer, the City and Rael’s team of consultants.

Closed: Urbana HOME Consortium Affordable Housing Request for Proposals

The Urbana Home Consortium is soliciting proposals from qualified organizations, for programs and projects that will seek to increase the supply of affordable housing available to low- and moderate- income households in Urbana, Champaign, and unincorporated Champaign County. The selected proposal(s) will be funded through HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) funds received by the Urbana HOME Consortium.

Industrial Zoning District Split Public Hearing

The Urbana Plan Commission will hold a public hearing regarding the proposed zoning ordinance text amendment and zoning map amendments on Thursday, May 10, 2012, at 7:30 PM in the Urbana City Council Chambers (400 S. Vine St). The Plan Commission will make a recommendation on the cases, which will be considered by the Urbana City Council at a future meeting.
