Urbana Climate Action Plan
The City of Urbana Sustainability Advisory Commission is creating an Urbana Climate Action Plan, a plan to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions in the community.
The City has a goal to reduce its environmental impacts while increasing the quality of life and supporting economic vibrancy. The Climate Action Plan (CAP) will guide the community in the reduction of its energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions. The public input meetings will provide information on energy usage in Urbana and climate change, as well as serve as a forum for the community to discuss potential strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The City has completed the first step of the Climate Action Plan. This plan includes a greenhouse gas inventory which is an assessment of how much energy is used by various sectors (residential, commercial, transportation, waste). With a proposed goal of reducing community greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by the year 2020, the Climate Action Plan is a community-wide plan that identifies strategies to achieve this goal.
Below is the DRAFT greenhouse gas inventory for 2007 (baseline year), the emissions reduction target, and draft strategies for Urbana.
Also below, is a Climate Action Plan Survey. Please take a minute to complete the survey.
