Economic Development
The Economic Development Division actively promotes the growth and development of the City of Urbana by encouraging and assisting in the retention and expansion of existing businesses, attracting new commercial and industrial development, and improving the quality of life through implementation of the City’s Comprehensive Plan.
Major Activities:
- Generates and coordinates economic development activities that will expand the City's commercial and industrial tax base to include annexation agreements, site development reviews, and development agreements
- Assists new and existing business development and manages incentive programs
- Manages certain special economic funds and programs including the Tax Increment Financing Districts, Enterprise Zone, and the Economic Development Fund
- Manages the Public Arts Program
- Represents the Department and City in economic development matters with the County Chamber, Economic Development Corporation, Urbana Business Association and Build Urbana efforts
