University Avenue Lane Closure between Cunningham Avenue and Coler Avenue

Beginning 7:00 a.m. Thursday , May 24, 2012 through 5:00 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012 weather permitting, University Avenue will have periodic lane closures in the westbound lane from Cunningham Avenue to Coler Avenue to allow for the installation of fiber optic cable.

Local Motor Fuel Tax Increases to 4 Cents a Gallon Effective July 1, 2012

On May 21st, the Urbana City Council approved an increase to the Local Motor Fuel Tax from 2.4 cents to 4 cents per gallon. The increase will take effect on July 1, 2012.

Opt-out Letters Being Sent; Do Not Respond to Get 36 Percent Electricity Savings

Many Urbana residents will receive opt-out letters in the mail the weekend of May 19, asking if they do NOT want to participate in the city's municipal electricity aggregation program.

On January 1, 2012, TVs, computers (including desktop, notebook, netbook, tablet), monitors, printers, computer peripherals, VCRs/DVD players, gaming systems, MP3 players and other electronic items were banned from Illinois landfills.
