Environmental Sustainability

This division is headed by the Environmental Sustainability Manager and provides certain solid waste coordination and environmental control services

Major Activities of the Environmental Sustainability Division:

• Administer environmental, sustainability, solid waste and recycling plans and programs including the U-cycle Program

• Provide technical services to assist the C.U.S.W.D.S. in monitoring the closed Urbana landfill as required by Illinois EPA regulations and certain agreements with neighboring landowners

• Coordinate the encephalitis prevention program with other cooperating agencies

• Administer garbage and recycling collection contracts for all municipal facilities

• Provide certain environmental protection services through enforcement of city codes

• Investigate complaints and initiate abatement procedures concerning health hazards, noxious weeds, excessive vegetation, obstructions to the visibility triangle, garbage, and refuse regulations
