Minimum Qualifications
*Must be at least 21 years and not more than 34 years of age.
*Graduation from high school or a G.E.D.
*General knowledge of the elementary principles of mechanics.
*Must possess a driver's license.
*Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform strenuous work in a variety of situations including adverse weather conditions.
Must successfully complete and pass:
- The State of Illinois Firefighter II certification and Hazardous Materials Operations coursework during the first year of employment.
- Pre-employment physical ability and fitness assessment.
- Pre-placement psychological examination.
- Pre-employment medical examination, including drug testing.
- Emergency Medical Technician Basic course with defibrillator training within the probationary period depending upon class availability.
Must have the ability to:
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with the public in a variety of situations.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions as found in standard operating procedure manuals, D.O.T. Emergency Response guidebooks, etc. and learn from written various training materials.
- Climb ladders, work at considerable heights and in confined spaces.
- Think and act quickly in emergency situations.
