Q: If I've already tested with the City of Urbana for Firefighter before, can I take it again?
A: Yes. Just visit our on-line hiring center to complete a new application and you will receive information on testing dates.
Q: The exam date is on a day I cannot attend—do you offer online testing or another test date?A: No. In order to ensure a secure test environment and make best use of our resources, we can only offer the exam as specified in your invitation.
Q: Is there an exam fee?
A: No, there is not a fee to attend the exam.
Q: Do I need to live in the city in order to take the exam?
A: No, you do not need to be an Urbana resident in order to take the exam. However, Urbana residents do receive five preference points on the civil service exam. Please review the application for more information on when and how to submit proof to receive resident preference points.
Q: What is the physical agility test like?
A: You will be asked to complete a number of tasks while wearing full turn-out gear and breathing equipment; this simulates the actual working environment of a firefighter. Some of the tasks include: climbing up and down stairs, climbing ladders, performing tasks in enclosed spaces and carrying a 185 lb. dummy while walking backwards.
