Sergeant
Sergeants supervise patrol and traffic activities and administrative assignments, perform patrol and investigative duties, make selective assignments and perform preliminary investigation work, investigate special complaints and criminal cases, interview witnesses and interrogates suspects, take statements, testify as a witness in court, assist in the training of police personnel, and ensure public safety by enforcing criminal and traffic laws in the City of Urbana.
In order to qualify, you must have knowledge typically acquired through completion of an Associate's degree in Law Enforcement or related course work and a minimum of three years of Police Officer experience with the City of Urbana.
Lieutenant
Lieutenants may be assigned to the Support Services, Criminal Investigations or Patrol division. They directly supervise and evaluate work of sergeants, participate in the resolution of labor grievances, recommend promotions, transfers, hires and discharges, and initiate disciplinary action.
In order to qualify, you must have knowledge typically acquired through completion of an Associate Degree in law enforcement or criminal justice or equivalent college credit and two years of experience as a Police Sergeant.
