USD 116 Placed on College Board's 2nd Annual AP District Honor Roll

For the second year in a row, Urbana School District is one of fewer than 400 public school districts in the nation being honored by the College Board with a place on the 2nd Annual AP Honor Roll, for simultaneously increasing access to Advanced Placement coursework while maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP exams.

FY 2011-2012 Annual Action Plan

The Annual Action Plan is the City of Urbana's budget for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Programs, and includes budgets for HOME Programs by the Cities of Champaign and Urbana, and Champaign County, which make up the Urbana HOME Consortium.

Crime and Calls for Police Service Decline in Southeast Urbana Neighborhood

URBANA – Crime and calls for police service declined significantly last month in a southeast Urbana neighborhood that has been the focus of city attention.

Due to a spike in criminal activity, the city instituted stepped up police patrols in late April in an area bounded by Philo Road on the east, Mumford Drive on the south, Cottage Grove Avenue on the west and Colorado Avenue on the north. The area includes a number of apartment buildings, including one at 2017 S. Philo Road that was the site of a Feb. 14 murder.

The results are in. Using your nominations, the Urbana Historic Preservation Commission has finalized a list of the 100 Most Significant Buildings in Urbana.

City Studies Modern Roundabouts for Intersection Improvements

Following directives expressed in the City Council's goals to "evaluat[e] all city projects for sustainability and incorporat[e] energy-savings systems," the City hired Ourston Roundabout Engineering to study the feasibility of installing a modern roundabout at two intersections scheduled for improvements in the near future.

Council Passes Ordinances Establishing a Package Liquor Tax & Increase in Hotel Use Tax

The City Council recently passed two ordinances amending the City code. Ordinance 2011-07-084 increases the hotel/motel use tax, and ordinance 2011-07-085 establishes a package liquor tax.

Track Team Takes Students to Junior Olympics

The Brown Track team is a small team made up of 5-14 year old students from Urbana and Champaign schools. Run by a group of local volunteer coaches, their goal is to provide opportunities to children with limited resources. In the past 5 years, the team has grown from just 8 athletes to 18.
