Artist of the Corridor Exhibition

Urbana Public Arts Program Announces An Artist of the Corridor Exhibition by Christopher Evans

SCENES OF DOWNTOWN is a collection of illustrated works exploring Downtown Urbana and its people in a wide variety of settings--from cafes to public parks, music venues to markets. These pictures are original sketches done on site, as it happens. The artist sketches the life around him as he sits in a coffee shop, a tavern, or listens to live music. Every attempt is made to present the facts as they present themselves, letting the scene express whatever beauty there might be in ordinary life. Come witness a capturing of the uniqueness of Downtown Urbana.

Christopher Evans is a local illustrator, curator, muralist, and sculptor whose work includes landscapes, portraiture, and architecture. An Urbana resident who studied art at Parkland College and the University of Illinois, Chris' art is displayed at The Iron Post, International Galleries, the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center, and the parking garage across from the courthouse. Chris serves on the Independent Media Center's Board of Directors and occasionally writes for the online magazine, Smile Politely.

Artist of the Corridor, an initiative by the City of Urbana Public Arts Program, is a dual-site exhibition series that features local art in the City Building and The Urbana Free Library. All Artist of the Corridor shows are free and open to the public.
