Surface Seal Placement on Various Streets

The City of Urbana has contracted with Corrective Asphalt Materials, LLC to place a surface seal on newly improved asphalt pavements that is intended to help the City extend the life of our pavements. Surface seal will be placed on the following streets throughout the City of Urbana

  • Green Street – Vine Street to Cottage Grove Avenue
  • Main Street - Dewey Street to University Avenue
  • Mumford Drive – Zuppke Drive to Anderson Street
  • Park Street - McCullough Street to Broadway Avenue
  • Philo Road - South City Limits to south of Windsor Road
  • Philo Road – Colorado Avenue to Florida Avenue
  • Vine Street - Colorado Avenue to Florida Avenue
  • Washington Street - Pfeffer Road to High Cross Road
  • Windsor Road – Boulder Drive to High Cross Road

This work is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2017. The entire project is anticipated to be complete by 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2017.

Goodwin Avenue Lane Closure

August 11, 2017 - 8:00am to August 18, 2017 - 5:00pm

The 2017 Concrete Patching Project has been awarded by the City of Urbana to Otto Baum Company, Inc. The project award amount is $79,950.94. This project is being funded with City Capital Replacement and Improvement Funds.

The project consists of pavement patching; curb and gutter removal and replacement and other miscellaneous work on portions of Goodwin Avenue from Oregon Street to Clark Street. Periodic lane closures can be expected starting Friday, August 11, 2017 and ending Friday, August 18, 2017.

Lane Closure on Various Streets for Pavement Marking

The City of Urbana has contracted with Varsity Striping & Construction Company to perform the annual pavement marking project. The project consists of repainting the center line, edge line, bike lanes and no passing zones on various streets in the City of Urbana.

The striping equipment travels at very slow speeds when applying paint. Motorists should be patient and pass only when it is safe to do so.

Please see the attached map for the roads that will be impacted.

Periodic lane closures can be expected on the listed streets starting Wednesday, August 9, 2017 and ending Friday, August 18, 2017.

West Main Street Closure

August 8, 2017 - 7:00am to 4:00pm

Weather permitting; West Main Street will be closed to thru traffic between Springfield Avenue and Central Avenue starting at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday August 8, 2017 through 4:00 p.m. Tuesday August 8, 2017 for a water main connection done by Illinois American Water.

Access will be maintained to all properties on West Main Street. A detour route will be provided using Springfield Avenue to North McCullough Street.

Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all construction areas. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during this project.

South Lynn Street Closure

August 7, 2017 - 7:00am to August 14, 2017 - 9:00am

Weather permitting; South Lynn Street will be closed to thru traffic between East Green Street and East Illinois Street starting at 7:00 a.m. Monday August 7, 2017 through 9:00 a.m. Monday August 14, 2017 for a sanitary sewer repair done by 217, Inc.

Access will be maintained to all properties on South Lynn Street.

Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all construction areas. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during this project.

Vine Street Lane Closure

August 2, 2017 - 7:00am to August 3, 2017 - 5:00pm

As part of the 2016 Storm Sewer Cleaning and Televising Project, Hoerr Construction, Inc. will be cleaning and televising sewers and will reduce traffic to three lanes on Vine Street between Main Street and University Avenue starting on Wednesday, August 2nd at 7:00 a.m. through Thursday, August 3rd at 5:00 p.m.

Vine Street will remain open to through traffic at all times and access will be maintained to all properties on Vine Street during the cleaning and televising process. Traffic control will be in place to guide motorists through the areas where travel is reduced to one lane.

Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all construction areas. Thank you for your cooperation while this improvement is in progress.

Water Street Closure for Blag Dog Corn Hole Tournament

On Friday, August 4, 2017, Water Street from Broadway Avenue to the West side of the Black Dog Smoke & Ale House building will be closed from 5:00 p.m. through 10:00 p.m.

Access to City Parking Lots 1 and 2 as well as access to remaining businesses will be available on Water Street from Race Street.

Main Street Closure for First Fridays Festival

August 4, 2017 - 5:00pm to 10:00pm

On Friday, August 4, 2017, Main Street between Race Street and Broadway Avenue will be closed from 5:00 p.m. through 10:00 p.m. for the August Urbana First Fridays Festival. Parking on this section of Main Street will not be available during the event.

South Anderson Street Closure

July 24, 2017 - 7:00am to July 31, 2017 - 7:00am

Weather permitting, South Anderson Street will be closed to thru traffic between East Mumford Drive and Eliot Drive starting at 7:00 a.m. Monday July 24, 2017 through 7:00 a.m. Monday July 31, 2017 for a sanitary sewer improvement project for Yankee Ridge Elementary School done by Imperial Concrete Company.

Access will be maintained to all properties on South Anderson Street but no thru traffic will be permitted on South Anderson Street between East Mumford Drive and Eliot Drive.
