Springfield Avenue and Matthews Avenue Closures

The following streets will be closed from 6:00 a.m. on Friday, March 9, 2018 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018 for the University of Illinois Engineering Council’s Engineering Open House:

  • Springfield Avenue from Wright Street to Goodwin Avenue
  • Matthews Avenue from Springfield Avenue to Green Street

A detour route will be established utilizing Wright Street to University Avenue to Goodwin Avenue to Springfield Avenue.

Your patience is appreciated while this event is underway.

CLOSED: Request for Proposal: Target Area Neighborhood Cleanup 2018

The Request for Proposal can be obtained from the City of Urbana, Community Development Services Department, Grants Management Division, 400 South Vine Street, Urbana, Illinois 61801 during regular office hours.

To be considered, completed proposal packets must be returned no later than 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at which time proposals will be publicly opened.

Green Street Lane Closure

The north half of Green Street from Goodwin Avenue to Lincoln Avenue will be closed to westbound traffic starting 7:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 6, 2018, until further notice. Westbound Green Street traffic will use a marked detour route via Springfield Avenue. Eastbound Green Street traffic will use the south half of the street. Northbound and southbound traffic will be maintained at all times at the Goodwin Avenue, and Lincoln Avenue, intersections with Green Street. If possible, through traffic is encouraged to use University Avenue or Florida Avenue instead of using Green Street during construction.

Periodic lane closures on Lincoln Avenue north and south of Green Street and on Lincoln Avenue east of Lincoln Avenue to Busey Avenue may also occur during this time period.

The sidewalks on the south side of Green Street from Goodwin Avenue to Lincoln Avenue will remain open to pedestrians. Pedestrian access for the CUMTD bus stop system will be available at bus stops provided on Springfield Avenue and Goodwin Avenue in the vicinity of the project. CUMTD buses will not be using Green Street from Goodwin Avenue to Lincoln Avenue at this time.

Race Street Closure

As part of annual tree pruning, and weather permitting, The City Arbor Division will be closing Race Street between Florida Avenue and Delaware Avenue completely to all traffic on Wednesday, March 7 10:00 a.m. through 3:30 p.m.

Access to all driveways and properties will be maintained throughout the pruning. A detour route utilizing South Broadway Avenue will be marked to route traffic around the work zone.

Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all work areas. Thank you for your cooperation while this pruning is in progress.

Stone Creek Boulevard Lane Closure

Weather permitting; the eastbound lane on Stone Creek Boulevard between Castlerock Drive and Muirfield Place will be closed starting at 7:00 a.m., Monday, February 26, 2018 through 5:00 p.m., Friday, March 2, 2018 for a storm sewer and street pavement repair. All traffic will be shifted to two-way traffic in the westbound lane of Stone Creek Boulevard between Castlerock Drive and Muirfield Place.

Access will be maintained to all properties on Stone Creek Boulevard during the project. Traffic control will be in place to guide motorists through the area where travel is switched to two-way traffic in the westbound lane.

Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all construction areas. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during this project.

Smith Road Sanitary Sewer Extension

The Smith Road Sanitary Sewer Extension has been awarded by the City of Urbana to Cross Construction, Inc. of Urbana, Illinois. The project is located on North Smith Road between Butzow Drive and Barr Avenue. The project award amount is $83,050.15. This project is funded by the Sanitary Sewer Benefit Tax.

Weather permitting, work on this project will begin on Monday, February 19, 2018 and be substantially completed by March 9, 2018. Access to all properties will be maintained for the duration of this project. Traffic control will be in place to safely direct motorists around the construction area.

Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all construction areas. Thank you for your cooperation while this improvement is in progress

Closed: Request for Proposals - 2018-2020 Sewer Clean-Up Contract

The City of Urbana is requesting proposals for the 2018-2020 Sewer Clean-Up Contract. This contract will involve work associated with Category 3 water damage mitigation and repair deemed necessary because of sewer cleaning activities. This contract will be awarded for a two-year period and the prices submitted must be honored for the duration of the contract.

All proposals submitted by the end of day (5:00pm local time) on Thursday, February 15, 2018 will be considered for this contract. The notice of award for this contract will be issued the following week.

Closed: UPD Accepting Tow Applications

The Urbana Police Department is currently accepting applications from tow companies for the police department rotational tow list. Tow companies must meet several minimal qualifications. A summary of the list of qualifications include:

  • Ability to respond to calls 24 hours per day / 7 days per week / 365 days per year
  • Maintain a minimum of three different tow trucks, one of which must be a flatbed, and staff capable of mobilizing all three trucks at one time
  • Response time from call to arrival on scene of 20 minutes
  • Ability to release vehicles 24 hours per day, including a 30-minute response time to a facility located in the Champaign-Urbana metropolitan area.
