Public Input Accepted on Draft City Council Goals
Urbana residents:
This draft document outlines city goals for coming years as developed by the mayor and city council, with input from city department heads.
The goals are grouped under six broad categories: public safety; financial sustainability; economic development; a vibrant, innovative downtown; environmental sustainability; and quality of life.
The goals deal with a wide variety of city issues, from how to continue the revitalization of Urbana’s downtown to becoming a bike friendly and walkable community. Once adopted, the goals will become a blueprint for the city’s future.
Implementation of the goals will have to be reconciled with the city’s budget on an annual basis. Some goals may take years to implement, while others can done immediately.
The next step in the process is you. We are seeking public input on the goals prior to their adoption. The goals are tentatively scheduled to be discussed at the Jan. 11 committee of the whole meeting of the city council.
If you disagree with a goal, or think we’ve left out something important, please contact your alderman or Mayor Laurel Prussing.
