Urbana High School Students Earn Ribbons in Annual Mathematics Contest
The forty-fifth Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology High School Mathematics Contest took place Saturday, November 13, 2010. Urbana High School students competed with approximately 400 students from 24 schools throughout Illinois, Iowa and Indiana. There were also guest middle school students from Honey Creek school in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Carmel, the winner, has over 4000 students so the contest was highly competitive! Students have one hour to answer twenty multiple-choice questions. Each correct answer was worth five points, but a one point penalty was deducted for each incorrect answer. Individual ribbons were awarded for the top twelve scores in each year--Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior.
Five students from Urbana High School earned ribbons in the event. Junior, Mark Peterson, took home 11th place, Sophomores Luke Kwon and Sebastian Junge received 6th and 7th place, respectively, and Freshmen Chang-hee Lee and Zikang Tong received 9th and 10th place, respectively.
Congratulations to the winners and all who participated in this year’s contest. For more information on the Mathematics Contest visit, http://www.rose-hulman.edu/~rickert/NovContest/
