Congratulations to UMS Teacher Erin Lodes, Apple Distinguished Educator for 2011
Urbana Middle School music teacher Erin Lodes sees technology as a way to transform learning into an exciting and engaging experience. Lodes uses programs like Garage Band in conjunction with iPads and iPod touches to transform her classroom space into a private recording studio where students can create and publish their own songs, movies, podcasts and more. Through her use of Apple products as a way to enhance teaching and learning, Lodes was selected as an Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE) for the Class of 2011.
As an ADE, Lodes is a member of a select group of 1,700 education professionals worldwide. The program recognizes K-12 educators who integrate Apple products and technology into their curriculum to transform teaching and learning in powerful ways. Lodes not only integrated mobile technologies in the classroom, but also developed content for staff development classes and partnered with university researchers to get other teachers using iPads and iPod touches in their classrooms. Her challenge-based learning methods allowed students to take ownership of their projects and the way that they learn.
Lodes will attend the ADE Institute this summer where she will collaborate with fellow Distinguished Educators from around the world. She is excited to be a member of this elite group of individuals and hopes that being an Apple Distinguished Educator will give her a bigger voice to celebrate the way that Apple products can help students and teachers empower creative learning within the classroom.
