2012 Electronics Landfill Ban
Beginning January 1, 2012: TVs, computers (including desktop, notebook, netbook, tablet), monitors, printers, computer peripherals, VCRs/DVD players, gaming systems, MP3 players and other electronic items will be banned from Illinois landfills. These items must be properly managed through recycling and reuse efforts. For more information on the electronics ban, visit www.epa.state.il.us. Local recycling options exist.
The electronic items banned from Illinois landfills include the following: TVs, monitors, printers, computers (desktop, laptop, notebook, netbook, tablet), electronic keyboards, fax machines, VCR's, MP3 players, DVD players, DVD recorders, video game consoles, small scale servers, scanners, electronic mice, digital converter boxes, cable receivers and satellite receivers.
Countywide residential electronics collection events will occur in 2012 for two dates (plus one tentative date). The dates are on Saturday mornings from 8 AM - 12 PM.
The 2012 dates are as follows:
- May 5
- August 4 (tentative)
- October 13
The residential-only collection events will be held at The News-Gazette Distribution Center (3202 N. Apollo Drive) in Champaign. Rain or shine.
