Urbana, Champaign, Savoy, and the University of Illinois Celebrate National Night Out Crime Prevention and Safety Month
The cities of Urbana, Champaign, and Savoy, and the University of Illinois are celebrating National Night Out Crime Prevention and Safety Month with community-wide events. The festivities kicked off with a joint reading of a National Night Out Proclamation by Mayor Don Gerard of Champaign, Mayor Pro Tem Charlie Smyth of Urbana, and Savoy Village President Robert McCleary on August 2 at the Champaign City Hall Building. The Annual National Night Out is a country-wide celebration, and is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for anti-crime programs; and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
