UC2B Construction Update

The Urbana Champaign Big Broadband Project (UC2B) construction work continues in Urbana.  John Burns Construction Company from Orland Park is installing fiber optic cable throughout the City of Urbana.

Beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2012 until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2012, University Avenue will have periodic lane closures of the westbound lane from Cunningham Avenue to Coler Avenue for fiber optic cable installation.  Two-way traffic will be allowed on University Avenue during this time.

With most of the conduit and handhole installation complete, crews are shifting their focus of work to restoring surfaces disrupted during the installation of conduit and handholes and to installing fiber optic cable through the conduit.

Seeding and pavement restoration began in northwest Urbana and will move east and south.

Fiber optic cable will be installed in the backbone rings that surround the community (I-74 corridor, Cunningham Avenue, High Cross Road, Washington Street, Windsor Road, Race Street and Curtis Road) and then move to the individual locations receiving service.
