The City of Urbana and the Lincoln Legacy Committee Present: In Lincoln’s Shadow A Walking Tour of Downtown Urbana
Abraham Lincoln spent nearly twenty years practicing law in Urbana, making friends and gaining political allies, and his shadow lingers still over our downtown. The City of Urbana and the Lincoln Legacy Committee, a collaboration of the Champaign County Board and the Champaign County Forest Preserve District, bring you In Lincoln’s Shadow, a walking tour of historic downtown Urbana.
On this informative walking tour, you’ll learn about the connections between our sixteenth President and the historic buildings found in today’s city. This is not a tour of sites he visited, but rather a look at the connections between the Urbana of Lincoln’s era and the historic buildings of today’s downtown.
The tour is a “pastcast tour”. Pastcasting brings story and place together, using new technology to offer on-demand, self-guided video walking tours to visitors at historic sites. Now you can see images and hear sounds from the past on the actual spot where history was made. The pastcasts are available to download as audio or video files to your personal mobile media device such as a smart phone, iPod, or mp3 player. MP3 video players will also be available for loan. For more information or to download the pastcasts, visit http://urbanaillinois.us/pastcast.
