Urbana Park District Seeks Advisory Committee Nominations
Looking for a great way to get involved with your community? Interested in being a spokesperson for your neighborhood? If so, the Urbana Park District Advisory Committee, or UPDAC, has a position just for you.
UPDAC is a volunteer group of 15-18 park district residents who serve staggered three-year appointed terms. The Urbana Park District Board of Commissioners appoints UPDAC members to act as eyes and ears in the community, and it counts on the volunteers to voice the opinions of their community as a whole.
The Urbana Park District was the first park district in Illinois to create an advisory committee. UPDAC plays a vital role in the decision making process for the community and requires its volunteers to work cooperatively and constructively with others.
The Urbana Park District seeks individuals with a strong interest in parks and recreation and are willing to respresent the Urbana Park District in a positive manner. In order to be considered for a nomination, you must be a legal resident of the Urbana Park District. Volunteers will also be asked to identify issues in the district and offer recommendations to the board that can be taken into consideration. Employees of the park district will not be considered for candidacy.
The group meets on the fourth Tuesday evening of each month, with the exception of July and December. Subcommittee work is also part of the expected commitment.
Applications for the Urbana Park District Advisory Committee are available Monday-Friday at the Urbana Park District administrative office at 303 W. University Avenue, Urbana. March 15th is the final day to sumbit an application.
