Tina Lehr, STEM instructional coach at UMS, has been working with a group of students in preparation for a collaboration project with kindergarten students at Booker T. Washington School. Fifteen students have been selected by their science teachers to be student leaders during an engineering project. They attended a materials training session with Joe Muskin, Education Coordinator at the Nano-CEMMS Center at UIUC, and are eager to work with the kindergarteners.
Students will be at Booker T. Washington on Monday, March 12 from 10:00-11:15 and again on Thursday, March 14 from 11:45-1:00. Monday’s nano-tech activity involves UMS students leading the kindergarteners in making bouncy balls and Thursday’s activities will involve some small-group physics demonstrations and activities led by UMS students.
This is a wonderful opportunity for all students involved and we hope that you are able to stop by and observe our student leaders! For more information, contact Urbana Middle School at 384-3685.
