The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that, weather permitting, work is scheduled to begin Monday, May 7, 2012 to install high tension cable guardrail on I-74 between Urbana (beginning at a location between the University Avenue, Exit 185, and the High Cross Road overpass) and St. Joseph in Champaign County.
This project includes earthwork, minor drainage revisions and installation of a high tension cable guardrail system in the median of the interstate. Traffic on I-74 will be reduced to one lane in each direction with the left-hand lane being closed during daytime hours. While work is ongoing, please observe all traffic control signs.
The anticipated completion date is November 2012. The contractor for this $2.1 million project is Cross Construction.
Motorists are advised to slow down and drive carefully through this and all work zones.
