Flying Machine Coffee Set to Join Downtown Urbana Development
A new way to get caffeinated is coming soon to downtown Urbana.
Flying Machine Coffee is set to join Pizza M at 208 West Main Street in Urbana. This location is the former Busey Center building which is currently under renovation by Matt Cho.
Josh Lucas is the man behind Flying Machine Coffee, an idea he came up with after spending years in the Chicago coffee world. Lucas plans for Flying Machine to offer small batch roasted coffee from a wide array of roasters, both big and small, sourced around Illinois and the United States. Lucas noted that the shop plans to buy local whenever possible in all aspects of the business.
Lucas hopes that Flying Machine “will provide a friendly, comfortable atmosphere with room to sit and study, or converse with friends, and fast service if you need to get to work.” Beside coffee, the new shop will offer special tea/juice drinks as well as vegetable/fruit/juice “super” drinks that are made-to-order sourced with local produce. Other drink items will include espresso drinks with flavors including vanilla, chocolate, paprika, smoked simple syrup, malted milk, and assorted herbs. Flying Machine also intends to provide house-made Chai as well as other popular international drinks.
To help get the store started, Lucas launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise extra money for start-up funds. These funds will go towards the purchase of equipment, supplies, and other necessary items. Lucas is hoping to raise at least $6,000 through the Indiegogo fundraising campaign. To thank fundraiser contributors, Lucas will offer free drinks, t-shirts, bags of coffee and discounts.
