Ash Street Improvement Project

Date: June 30, 2014 (All day)

Weather permitting, the Ash Street Improvement Project will begin construction on Monday, May 5, 2014.

This project consists of removing the existing oil and chip pavement, concrete pavements, curbs, driveways, sidewalks and then installing a new concrete pavement with new curb and gutter, sidewalk ramps and drainage improvements. The Contractor is Otto Baum Company, Inc. from Morton, Illinois. The project cost of $185,000 is being funded by the Urbana Park District (43%) and the City of Urbana (57%). The City’s share will be paid with Local Motor Fuel Tax and Stormwater Utility Fee funds. The limits of the project are from University Avenue to the alley north of Park Street and include the intersection of Park Street and Ash Street. The project will be constructed in one stage and will take approximately 6 weeks to complete. Final restoration will complete the project in mid to late June.

Park Street and the two east-west alleys that intersect with Ash Street will remain closed at all times during the construction. Marked detour routes will be created utilizing the adjacent side streets of Sycamore Street and Hickory Street. All dates mentioned are subject to change depending on weather and work progress. Further updates will follow as work progresses.
