UPTV Wins Five Awards at the Midwest Video Fest

The City of Urbana is pleased to announce that Urbana Public Television won five awards at the 2nd Annual Best of the Midwest Invitational Video Fest and Awards Banquet.

  The banquet recognizes the best community access television programs in the Midwest. 


UPTV staff won the merit award in the professional category for website design, urbanapublictelevision.org, and social media, UPTV’s Facebook page.  Community producer Ricardo Diaz was recognized for his work on CU Immigration Forum TV, a weekly program focusing on the latest immigration issues and news.  CU Immigration Forum TV  won the Significant Community Program Award. 


UPTV volunteers’ coverage of the Champaign County Freedom Celebration Parade 2013 won the Achievement Award.  Marie Polk, Ellis Woodland, Josh Laskowski, Allan Polk, Shay Oaties, Camden Coleman and Crofton Coleman were honored for their work on this project.


Ray Morales won Best in Show: Excellence Award for ILL Poets Society:  Chi City Youth.  This was the highest honor given at the Video Fest.


“It’s great to be recognized at the regional level,” commented Production Coordinator, Jason Liggett.  “Our community producers and volunteers work hard to develop these programs and their hard work has paid off.  We are truly blessed in Urbana to have a City Council that recognizes the importance of community media.”


UPTV is the City of Urbana’s Public, Education and Government access television station.  It is available locally on Comcast channel 6, AT&T U-Verse Channel 99, and streaming worldwide at their website.
