Mama Edie: Musician, Artist, and Storyteller

Date: April 23, 2016 - 2:00pm to 3:00pm

Africa Library Project

Saturday, April 23 • 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Busey-Mills Reading Room • First Floor

Let Mama Edie Armstrong take you on a journey through time and through space with stories you can tell, and percussion you too can play, as we re-awaken the storyteller in all of us.

Mama Edie is a bilingual storyteller (Spanish/English), published writer, percussionist, speech/language pathologist, and voice-over artist. Whether fun and frolicky or somber and serene, Mama Edie’s presentations are powerful reminders of our own beauty and strength and the gifts we are to the world.

Help Build a School Library in Zomba, Malawi! The Urbana Sister Cities Program and Students of the University of Illinois are working in partnership to help raise literacy rates at a selected primary school in Zomba, Malawi. Under the project title, Readers are Leaders, the students have set a goal to collect 1,000 gently used, early-to-young-reader level books to ship to Malawi with the help of The African Library Project. Students from the UIUC AGED 480 class will be on hand to explain their project.

The public is invited to attend this FREE event. Book donations for the Namiwawa Primary School will be accepted during the performance.
