New Meter Rate Increase

For the first time in 10 years, Urbana parking meters in the Campus and Hospital Districts increased from $0.75 per hour to $1.00 per hour on July 1, 2011.

Meters will continue to accept coins at the following new rates:

Downtown Market Study Now Available

As part of the ongoing Downtown Plan Update, the City conducted a Downtown Market Study to be able to gather important economic data that could be used to supplement existing business inventory data and could be used to help attract targeted businesses identified through surveys and through the Downtown Plan process.

Chancellor's Scholars at Urbana High School

Three Urbana High seniors have been admitted to the Campus Honors Program at the University of Illinois and awarded designation as “Chancellor’s Scholar.” Out of more than 7,000 students admitted to the U of I, only 125 students are awarded this honor.

Local Motor Fuel Tax Rate Change

The City of Urbana local motor fuel tax will increase to 2.4 cents/gallon (from the current 2.0 cents/gallon) effective with motor fuel tax sales beginning July 1, 2011.

Urbana High School Alums Receive Bronze Tablet Status

Robert Walker, and Sarah Hoyle-Katz, graduates of Urbana High School, will have their names inscribed on the 2011 Bronze Tablet that hangs in the Main Library at the University of Illinois. This recognition is awarded to the top 3 percent of students in each college of the University. Students are notified of their eligibility by the College of LAS Student Academic Affairs Office.

Urbana Adult Ed Teachers Selected for Arthur J. Stejskal Teacher of the Year Award

Urbana Adult Education is proud to announce that Peggy Buck and Sheri Langendorf, Urbana Adult Education teachers, were selected as co-teachers for the Arthur J. Stejskal Teacher of the Year Award.
