City of Urbana Awarded Signficant Grant for Sister City Project

SISTER CITIES INTERNATIONAL AWARDS GRANT FOR AFRICAN SUSTAINABILITY PROJECT TO THE CITY OF URBANA

Grant funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

URBANA—Sister Cities International has awarded a two-year, $115,000 grant to the city of Urbana, Illinois to perform projects that address sanitation, health, and water issues in urban areas of Africa. This project is funded by a $7.5 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

City Tree Trimming Notice

The City of Urbana Arbor Division will be performing street tree pruning starting this spring/summer. The pruning is to provide adequate clearance over streets, sidewalks, driveways and homes, as well as, maintain the health and vigor of city trees. This pruning will follow city tree ordinance standards and be completed by Arbor Division Certified Arborists.

Reconstruction of Windsor Road Resumes

Reconstruction of Windsor Road from Boulder Drive, just east of Philo Road, to High Cross Road (IL. Rte. 130), is expected to resume, weather permitting, the week of March 29th, 2010.

 This work will continue through November 2010 with some weather dependent items finished in spring 2011.

This draft document outlines city goals for coming years as developed by the mayor and city council, with input from city department heads.

The goals are grouped under six broad categories: public safety; financial sustainability; economic development; a vibrant, innovative downtown; environmental sustainability; and quality of life.

Census 2010: It’s in Our Hands

2010 Census logoThe U.S. Census Bureau will conduct a national census in March and April of 2010. The United States Constitution mandates that the federal government count everyone residing in the United States every ten years. Every person is to be counted where they reside on April 1, 2010.
