Boneyard Creek Improvements Project Construction Update
Work continued on the Project in June 2014. Work completed included: reconstruction of the south sidewalk and parapet on the Griggs Street Bridge; selective concrete demolition and repairs for the railroad culvert; installation of the creek edge from Griggs Street to the railroad culvert; stone veneer installation on the Race Street Bridge, installation of the multi-use path along the Creek on the west side of Race Street; installation of the steps from Race Street to the creek; installation the seat walls west of Race Street; installation of hand rails; installation of step accent lights; pouring the concrete pavement in the trestle bridge plaza; and landscaping installations along Race Street.
Work anticipated for July 2014 includes: installation of the creek edge from the railroad culvert to Broadway Avenue; installation of the core and seat walls East of Race Street; installation of the stone veneer on the Race Street bridge, core walls, and planters; and installation of Wall 12.
Reconstruction of Griggs Street from Race Street with concrete pavement to the Griggs Street Bridge over the Boneyard Creek began on Wednesday July 16, 2014. Griggs Street between Race Street and Central Avenue will remain closed to thru traffic during the reconstruction work. The newly constructed portion of Griggs Street is expected to be opened to traffic on Friday August 15, 2014, weather permitting.
Norfolk-Southern is scheduled to replace the railroad crossing surfaces on Broadway Avenue and Race Street the first week of August. Replacement of the railroad crossing surface will require the total closures of Broadway Avenue and Race Street to thru traffic. A press release for the closures of Broadway and Race will be issued once the exact date for the replacement work is set by Norfolk-Southern.
