How To Avoid Parking Tickets
Parking at Meters
-
Urbana meters accept coins (nickel, dime, quarter) and CashKeys. The meters will not accept dollar coins.
-
Check street signs and look at information stickers on and inside each meter for specific parking instructions.
-
CASHKEY is a cashless way of paying for parking meters. The key can be programmed for use in Urbana, Champaign and Campus meters. The purchase price is $19.50 and all three parking entities sell the key and meter value. Call 384-2346 for more information.
-
The City of Urbana, the City of Champaign and the University of Illinois, depending upon specific locations, enforce campus area parking. Each entity has their own enforcement regulations and the information contained herein may not apply to parking tickets received from either the University of Illinois or the City of Champaign. All meters are labeled with the parking authorities logo. -
Use the Mass Transit District to avoid campus area parking hassles. Students can have unlimited MTD bus service simply by using their University identification. Students and visitors to the campus area can also take advantage of the University's remote parking lots and shuttle service. For information regarding these services, contact the Division of Campus Parking at 1110 West Springfield Avenue, Urbana, Illinois 61801; (217) 333-3530.
Collection of Delinquent Tickets
In fairness to those who pay parking tickets promptly, the City of Urbana considers delinquent tickets a serious matter. Persons with unpaid parking tickets are subject to the suspension of their driver's license, possible court action, including issuance of an arrest warrant, vehicle immobilization and the towing and impounding of their vehicle.
