Sewers

The Department of Public Works operates and maintains both the sanitary and storm sewer systems in the City of Urbana.

The sanitary sewer system carries wastewater from homes and businesses to the Urbana-Champaign Sanitary District’s Northeast Wastewater Treatment Plant for treatment.The sanitary sewer system consists of 102 miles of pipe and 2,200 manholes.

The storm sewer system carries rainwater runoff from homes and businesses to the local creeks and streams.The storm sewer system consists of 137 miles of pipe and 8,000 manholes.
