CUNNINGHAM TOWNSHIP BOARD ASSESSOR VACANCY 

Cunningham Township Assessor Wayne Williams has submitted his resignation effective February 13, 2023. Therefore the Cunningham Township Board seeks to fill a vacancy in the office of Township Assessor effective February 13, 2023. 

Process for Filling Township Assessor Vacancy

Per the Township Code/Property Tax Code, qualifications to hold this office include:

  1. Applicant must be a legally registered voter.
  2. Applicant must have been a resident of Cunningham Township (co-terminus with the City of Urbana) for one year prior to February 13, 2023.
  3. Applicant must have successfully completed a course of study or designation by an approved professional assessing or appraisal association. The applicant must possess at least one of the following qualification
    • A currently active Certified Illinois Assessing Officer designation from the Illinois Property Assessment Institute;
    • A currently active AAS, CAE, or MAS designation from the International Association of Assessing Officers;
    • A currently active MAI, SREA, SRPA, SRA, or RM designation from the Appraisal Institute; or
    • A currently active professional designation by any other appraisal or assessing association approved by the Department. 
  4. Applicant must be affiliated with the same political party (Democratic) as the person vacating the office. Party affiliation may be established by their record of voting in party primary elections or by holding/having held an office in the party organization before the appointment. If the applicant has done neither of the above, affiliation is established based on their record of participating in a political party’s nomination or election caucus. 
  5. Applicant is NOT eligible to hold a township office if that person at the time of taking the oath of office has been convicted in any court in the United States of any infamous crime, bribery, perjury, or other felony. (60 ILCS1/55-6.)

Copies of application documents from all applicants will be provided to Cunningham Town Board members, Cunningham Township Supervisor, Cunningham Township Assessor, and Cunningham Township Attorney in advance of the February 13 Township Board Meeting. 

The Cunningham Town Board will nominate and vote on the appointment of a qualified individual to fill the vacancy in the office of Township Assessor at the February 13, 2023 Township Board Meeting.
