Street Closings for International Beer Tasting and Food Truck Showcase

On Saturday, September 13, 2014, the following streets will be closed from 6:00 a.m. to midnight for the International Beer Tasting and Food Truck Showcase:



  • Main Street from Broadway Avenue to Walnut Street

  • Broadway Avenue from Main Street to Elm Street

The streets will be fully reopened at midnight.

Notice of Availability of Draft Housing and Community Development Reports (CAPER)

The City of Urbana has completed the draft Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER) documenting programs and activities undertaken through its federally-funded affordable housing and community development programs during the year ending June 30, 2013. The draft CAPER will be available for public review and comment during the period beginning Friday, September 5, 2014 through Friday September 19, 2014. The draft CAPER will be available during regular business hours at the following locations:

Busey Avenue and Iowa Street Closures

September 2, 2014 - 7:00am to September 8, 2014 - 7:00am

Busey Avenue will be closed to through traffic from Pennsylvania Avenue to Nevada Street, at 7:00 am on Tuesday, September 2, 2014.


Iowa Street will be closed to through traffic from Lincoln Avenue to Orchard Street, at 7:00 am on Tuesday, September 2, 2014.


This closure is expected to continue until Monday, September 8, 2014  at 7:00 am. The contractor for this project is Cross Construction from Urbana, Illinois. The project consists of milling and resurfacing pavement.


All streets to be resurfaced will be closed to through traffic prior to the surface removal and will be reopened upon placement of the final layer of asphalt. Businesses and residents will have access to their property/driveway at all times.

Labor Day Parade Route

On Monday, September 1, 2014, the Champaign County AFL/CIO will be conducting their annual Labor Day parade from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.


The parade route is as follows: Begin at Illinois Street and Broadway Avenue, travelling south on Broadway Avenue to Washington Street, and then east on Washington Street to the Brookens Administrative Center.


The streets along the parade route will be reopened after the parade passes through each intersection.

North Goodwin Avenue and Park Street Closure

G.A. Rich will be installing a new storm sewer at the intersection of North Goodwin Avenue and Park Street as part of the Campus Circle Project. The intersection of North Goodwin Avenue and Park Street will be closed to through traffic beginning Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 7:00 a.m. and ending Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 5:00 p.m., weather permitting.


No through traffic will be permitted on North Goodwin Avenue between University Avenue and Church Street during the closure of the intersection. Park Street will be closed at its intersection with North Goodwin Avenue.


A detour route for North Goodwin Avenue is provided via University Avenue to Lincoln Avenue to Fairview Avenue. Access will be maintained to all properties on North Goodwin Avenue and Park Street during the sewer construction.

Urbana-Champaign Sanitary District Open House

The Urbana & Champaign Sanitary District at 1100 E. University will host its third annual Open House Saturday, September 13. District personnel will provide tours of the wastewater treatment plant. The event features historical and informational videos, along with poster displays illustrating how the processes work to clean the water. Demonstrations of the Graphical Information System (GIS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) computer programs are also scheduled.

It is the 90th year of continuous operation of the trickling filter. It was built as part of the original treatment plant in 1924. The 1.6 acre trickling filter remains a key process for the District.

This is a great education opportunity for adults and children to learn how the water they use is returned to the environment.

North Broadway Avenue Closure

August 25, 2014 - 7:00am to August 29, 2014 - 5:00pm

Norfolk-Southern Railroad Corporation will be reconstructing the North Broadway Avenue railroad crossing surface between University Avenue and Water Street as part of the Boneyard Creek Improvements Project. North Broadway Avenue between University Avenue and Water Street will be closed to through traffic beginning on Monday, August 25, 2014 starting at 7:00 A.M. and ending on Friday, August 29, 2014 at 5:00 P.M., weather permitting.


A detour route is provided via University Avenue to North Race Street to Main Street. Access will be maintained to all properties on North Broadway Avenue during the railroad crossing work, but no through traffic will be permitted on North Broadway Avenue between University Avenue and Water Street.

Lynn Street Closure

September 30, 2014 (All day)

Lynn Street will be closed at Windsor Road starting 7 am Friday August 22 until further notice. Access to the residential area north of Windsor Road will be available by using Scovill Street from either Philo Road or Vine Street.

Urbana Sweetcorn Festival Street Closures

On Friday August 22, 2014 at 6:00 a.m. the following streets will be closed:



  • Main Street from Vine Street to Cedar Street

  • Walnut Street from Water Street to Main Street

  • Broadway Avenue from Elm Street to Water Street

  • Race Street from Elm Street to Water Street

  • Elm Street from Vine Street to Race Street

On Saturday August 23, 2014 at 6:00 a.m. the following street will be included in the closure:


Elm Street from Race Street to Cedar Avenue (Access to Busey Bank drive thru will be available)


The Urbana Parking Deck will be accessible from South Race to Elm Street at all times.


All streets will be re-opened on Sunday, August 24, 2014 by noon. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Nevada Street Closure

Nevada Street from Lincoln Avenue to Gregory Street will be closed to traffic from 7:00 a.m. on Monday, August 18, 2014 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2014 for A & R Services, Inc. to install utilities for the UIUC Center for Wounded Veterans in Higher Education facility.


Motorists are encouraged to utilize Oregon Street, one block to the north, as a suggested detour route.

Goodwin Avenue Street Closure

Goodwin Avenue from Park Street to Church Street is closed to traffic effective immediately today, Thursday, August 14, 2014, tentatively through the end of the day on Friday, August 15, 2014 for Norfolk Southern Railroad to make an emergency repair to their tracks. Park Street west of Goodwin Avenue will be accessible.
