Beverly Drive Partial Street Closure

Weather permitting, Beverly Drive from its intersection with Bradley Avenue travelling approximately 75 feet north on Beverly Drive will be closed to traffic on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 8:00 a.m. until Monday, June 15, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. for D&S Sewer Service to perform a sanitary sewer lateral repair.

Washington Street Closure

Weather permitting; Washington Street from High Cross Road/Illinois 130 to Pfeffer Road, including the intersection at Washington Street and Pfeffer Road, will be closed to traffic on Thursday, June 4, 2015 from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for the contractor Open Road Paving to perform asphalt road resurfacing.

Western Avenue Closure

May 28, 2015 - 7:00am to June 30, 2015 - 5:00pm

Weather permitting, Western Avenue from Lincoln Avenue to Gregory Street will be closed to thru traffic beginning Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 7:00 A.M. and ending Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at 5:00 P.M. for construction of a new housing complex. There will be no detour route for this closure.

Race Street Closure

On Sunday, May 31, 2015, Race Street between Main Street and Water Street will be closed from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. for the Community Center for the Arts Race Street Bash. Access to the Courier Café will be available during this event.

Pavement Testing on Various City Streets

May 21, 2015 - 7:00am to May 22, 2015 - 5:00pm

The City of Urbana has contracted with Applied Pavement Technology, Inc. to perform pavement testing on the following City streets:



  • Main Street– Hartle Drive to Smith Road

  • Washington Street – Lierman Avenue to Dodson Drive

  • Philo Road – south of Marc Trail to south of Windsor Road

This work is scheduled to begin, weather permitting, on Thursday, May 21, 2014 and should be completed by Friday, May 22, 2015. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times, however periodic lanes closures are expected to occur during day light hours.

Johnson Avenue Closure

May 19, 2015 - 7:00am to 5:00pm

Weather permitting, Johnson Avenue from California Avenue to Illinois Street will be closed to thru traffic on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for a sanitary sewer repair.


There will be no detour route for this closure. Access will be maintained to all properties on Johnson Avenue during the sanitary sewer repair.

Main Street Closure

On Friday, May 15, 2015, Main Street between Broadway Avenue and Vine Street will be closed from 10:30 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. for the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office Police Memorial taking place at the Champaign County Courthouse.

McCullough Street Closure

McCullough Street from Oregon Street to California Avenue will be closed today, Monday May 4, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. for a tree removal. No through traffic will be permitted, however residents will have access to their properties at all times.

MCORE Public Open House

The Champaign Urbana Mass Transit District (MTD), the City of Champaign, City of Urbana, and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign applied for and received a $15.7 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Grant for the construction of the Multimodal Corridor Enhancement (MCORE) Project (www.mcoreproject.com) within the University District.  The total cost for the project is estimated at $34.8 million, which includes the $15.7 million grant plus local matching funds estimated at $19.1 million.  An informational meeting is scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at the Alice Campbell Alumni Center (601 South Lincoln Avenue, Urbana, IL) for the purpose of discussing the MCORE project, which consists of the five individual projects listed below:

Project No. 1  Green Street from Wright Street to Busey Avenue

Project No. 2  Green Street from Neil Street to Fourth Street

Lane Closures on Illinois Route 130

August 31, 2015 - 5:00pm

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that, weather permitting, work is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 4, 2015 to resurface Illinois Route 130 from Philo, Illinois to Washington Street in Urbana, Illinois. 


This project will include patching and resurfacing of Illinois Route 130.  During this project, traffic on Illinois Route 130 will be reduced to one lane.  While work is ongoing, motorists are reminded to observe all traffic control signs.


The anticipated completion date is August 2015.  Cross Construction is the contractor for this $2.9 million project.


Please slow down and use extreme caution while driving through all work zones.
