The Downtown Public Realm Study

For years, Downtown Urbana has been an important place for residents, the university community, and visitors alike. Recent investments in public amenities have had a positive impact on the urban landscape, but the journey to crafting a truly vibrant downtown experience is far from over.  

In 2022, the City began an effort to engage the community to identify an actionable plan for Downtown Urbana’s public spaces. 

Over the last two years, City leaders and staff working with the consulting firm, Confluence, engaged the public by providing several opportunities to get involved. You can see this effort by clicking on the following link Get Involved. 

The Public Realm Study was presented to City Council on Monday, March 13, 2023, and has since been completed. The City is now proudly working to implement many of the recommendations contained in the study.
