Impounding Vehicles for Unpaid Parking Tickets

Urbana's collection processes for unpaid parking violations include the account being forwarded to collections, towing and impoundment of the vehicle and vehicle immobilization (see below).

If your vehicle is impounded, contact:

Urbana Police Department
400 South Vine Street
Urbana, IL 61801
(217) 384-2320

The registered owner is the only person allowed to pick up a towed vehicle. When you pick up your vehicle, you will need to bring with you photo identification and proof of ownership. This includes title, registration, bill of sale, etc. If the owner is unavailable, the person who is attempting to retrieve the vehicle must bring written permission from the registered owner expressly giving permission for the vehicle's release. We will give you a release and tell you the towing agency name and address where you can retrieve your vehicle. Take the release form to them so that they know it can be released. Also, you may need to pay a parking ticket prior to releasing your vehicle.

Vehicle Immobilization "Booting"

Any vehicle with five (5) or more unpaid parking violations thirty (30) days or older will be subject to vehicle immobilization, also referred to as "booting."

For questions or inquiries, please contact the Finance Department at (217) 384-2346.
