Urbana-Champaign Sanitary District Open House
The Urbana & Champaign Sanitary District at 1100 E. University will host its third annual Open House Saturday, September 13. District personnel will provide tours of the wastewater treatment plant. The event features historical and informational videos, along with poster displays illustrating how the processes work to clean the water. Demonstrations of the Graphical Information System (GIS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) computer programs are also scheduled.
It is the 90th year of continuous operation of the trickling filter. It was built as part of the original treatment plant in 1924. The 1.6 acre trickling filter remains a key process for the District.
This is a great education opportunity for adults and children to learn how the water they use is returned to the environment.
