Solar Urbana-Champaign 2.0 Closes Another Successful Round
Solar Urbana-Champaign 2.0 has come to a close with 447 kilowatts (kW) of clean solar energy contracted for installation on 58 homes and businesses in Champaign County. Congratulations to all who participated! You are helping make your community cleaner and more energy independent!
As a whole, we estimate that the 58 participants will save over $57,000 in utility costs their first year, producing a combined total of over 522,000 kWh of clean solar energy annually. The environmental benefits of the Solar UC program are equally impressive. We estimate that over 639,000 pounds of CO2 and nearly 10 million gallons of water will be offset in the first year alone by using this renewable source of energy rather than fossil fuel generated electricity.
The 2016 round of Solar Urbana-Champaign installed 605 kw of solar capacity. This means that in 2 years Champaign County communities installed 1 megawatt of solar capacity! To learn more about installing solar in Urbana, visit http://www.urbanaillinois.us/solar.
