Household Hazardous Waste Event Registration Begins September 23
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) has selected Champaign County for a household hazardous waste (HHW) event scheduled on Saturday, October 26, 2019, from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Registration is required to attend the event in Champaign. Online and phone registration will begin on Monday, September 23, at 8:00 a.m. To register online, please click here. Urbana residents may register by phone at (217) 384-2302.
Items accepted at the event include the following:Chemicals, oil-based paints, paint thinner, antifreeze, motor oil, gasoline, kerosene, insecticides, pesticides, lead acid batteries, pharmaceuticals, and similar hazardous waste materials. Fluorescent and other high-intensity discharge lamps may also be brought to the collection.
Items not accepted include: Latex-based paint, explosives, propane tanks, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, agricultural chemicals and business waste.
Once registered, residents will receive a postcard in the mail 5-7 days prior to the event. Please bring the postcard with you to the event to serve as your "ticket" to get into the event.
