Urbana Sweetcorn Festival Street Closures

On Friday August 22, 2014 at 6:00 a.m. the following streets will be closed:



  • Main Street from Vine Street to Cedar Street

  • Walnut Street from Water Street to Main Street

  • Broadway Avenue from Elm Street to Water Street

  • Race Street from Elm Street to Water Street

  • Elm Street from Vine Street to Race Street

On Saturday August 23, 2014 at 6:00 a.m. the following street will be included in the closure:


Elm Street from Race Street to Cedar Avenue (Access to Busey Bank drive thru will be available)


The Urbana Parking Deck will be accessible from South Race to Elm Street at all times.


All streets will be re-opened on Sunday, August 24, 2014 by noon. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Nevada Street Closure

Nevada Street from Lincoln Avenue to Gregory Street will be closed to traffic from 7:00 a.m. on Monday, August 18, 2014 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2014 for A & R Services, Inc. to install utilities for the UIUC Center for Wounded Veterans in Higher Education facility.


Motorists are encouraged to utilize Oregon Street, one block to the north, as a suggested detour route.

Goodwin Avenue Street Closure

Goodwin Avenue from Park Street to Church Street is closed to traffic effective immediately today, Thursday, August 14, 2014, tentatively through the end of the day on Friday, August 15, 2014 for Norfolk Southern Railroad to make an emergency repair to their tracks. Park Street west of Goodwin Avenue will be accessible.

Windsor Road Lane Adjustments

The vehicle lanes on Windsor Road will be moved off of the old concrete pavement to the newly constructed concrete pavement west of Philo Road starting Saturday, December 13, 2014 in preparation for the winter shutdown period. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times on Windsor Road through the winter shutdown period. The winter shutdown period will commence Saturday, December 13, 2014 and will continue until construction resumes in the spring of 2015. The project is currently forty percent complete, and the remaining sixty percent of the project is expected to be complete by December 2015.


The Windsor Road Pavement Reconstruction Project is being constructed by Stark Excavating, Inc. from Bloomington, Illinois. The project award amount is $4,064,796.04. This project is being funded by a combination of Federal Highway Administration’s Surface Transportation Program (federal highway trust funds) and City Municipal Bond Funds (reimbursed with local gas tax funds).

North Race Street Closure

August 7, 2014 - 8:00am to August 12, 2014 - 5:00pm

Norfolk-Southern Railroad Corporation will be reconstructing the North Race Street railroad crossing surface between University Avenue and Griggs Street as part of the Boneyard Creek Improvements Project. North Race Street between University Avenue and Griggs Street will be closed to through traffic beginning on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 8:00 a.m. and ending on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 5:00 p.m., weather permitting.


A detour route is provided via University Avenue to Broadway Avenue to Main Street. Access will be maintained to all properties on Race Street during the railroad crossing work, but no through traffic will be permitted on Race Street between University Avenue and Griggs Street.

Washington Street and Broadway Avenue Closures

August 6, 2014 - 4:00pm to August 13, 2014 - 5:00pm

Washington Street will be closed to through traffic from just east of Race Street to just west of Walnut Street beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2014.


Broadway Avenue will be closed to through traffic from Washington Street to just south of Illinois Street beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2014.


These closures are expected to continue until Wednesday, August 13, 2014, weather permitting. The contractor for this project is Cross Construction from Urbana, Illinois.


The project consists of milling and resurfacing pavement.


All streets to be resurfaced will be closed to through traffic prior to the surface removal and will be reopened upon placement of the final layer of asphalt. Businesses and residents will have access to their property/driveway at all times.

Coler Avenue Closure

Weather permitting, Coler Avenue between Church Street and Fairview Avenue will be closed beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 through 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 1, 2014 for roadway repairs.


No thru traffic will be permitted, however residents will have access to their driveways during the road closure.

The Urbana Public Arts Program in Urbana, Illinois is seeking artists to display sculptures in our community. Selected sculptures will be installed in the community metro area.

Notice of Amendment to Annual Action Plan FY 2012-2013 & Notice of Public Hearing

The City of Urbana, as a member of the Urbana HOME Consortium, proposes to amend the City of Urbana HOME Program budget in the FY 2012-2013 Annual Action Plan (AAP). Additional HOME funds in the amount of $115,000 will be allocated to the Champaign County Regional Planning Commission, No Limits Program from unobligated HOME funds. For full details of the proposed Amendment to the Annual Action Plan, please see attachment below.

On Thursday, August 1, 2014 @ 10:00 a.m., the City of Urbana will hold a public hearing in the Urbana City Council Chambers at 400 S. Vine St. Urbana, IL, to accept comments on the proposed Amendment. If unable to attend the public hearing, written questions and comments should be directed in writing to Kelly H. Griggs Street Closure

Griggs Street will be closed from Race Street west across the Griggs Street Bridge over the Boneyard Creek beginning Wednesday, July 16, 2014. This portion of Griggs Street will be reconstructed as part of the Boneyard Creek Project. The newly constructed portion of Griggs Street is expected to be opened to traffic on Friday August 8, 2014, weather permitting. The contractor for this work is Feutz Contractor’s, Inc.

Country Club Road Closure

Country Club Road will be closed from Broadway Avenue to Cunningham Avenue (US 45) beginning Monday, July 14, 2014. This project is expected to continue until July 29, 2014, weather permitting. The contractor for this project is Open Road Paving from Urbana, Illinois.


The project consists of the reconstruction of Country Club Road. The proposed work will entail the removal of the existing pavement to allow for placement of a new hot-mix asphalt pavement.
