Consolidated Social Service Funding Applications Available

Non-profit organizations seeking funds to operate social service programs benefiting Urbana residents may apply to the Consolidated Social Service Funding (CSSF) pool.  Funds may be used for both services to clients and program operating costs.  For Fiscal Year 2013-2014, the City of Urbana and Cunningham Township jointly provided $265,000 in social service funds in support of over 25 local programs.

Applications will be available on Monday, March 10, 2014 at the following locations:                                                                     

  • City of Urbana, Community Development Srvices, 400 S. Vine St., Urbana
  • Cunningham Township Supervisor's Office, 205 W. Green St., Urbana
  • At the bottom of this page.

All applicants are required to attend one of the Technical Assistance Training sessions in the Urbana City Council Chambers:

Anderson Street Becomes Northbound One-Way in Front of Wiley School

In order to improve safety and efficiency in student drop-off and pick-up at Wiley School, officials from the City of Urbana and Urbana School District 116 are announcing a change in traffic flow beginning Monday, March 10, 2014.

Anderson Street from Florida Avenue to Pennsylvania Avenue will become a northbound one-way street from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on school days.

The Urbana Police Department will be on site during the first few days of this change to assist with the traffic flow.

Notice of Availability for Public Review & Comment - City of Urbana & Urbana HOME Consortium Draft FY 2014-2015 Annual Action Plan

Copies of the Draft FY 2014-2015 Annual Action Plan will be available for review to the general public between Monday, February 24, 2014 and Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the following locations:

There will be a public hearing on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at 7 p.m in the Urbana City Building to receive comments and suggestions on the Draft FY 2014-2015 Annual Action Plan. Persons with disabilities needing services for this hearing should contact Grants Management Division at 384-2447 (TDD 384-2360) or the City’s Americans With Disabilities Act Coordinator at 384-2466.

The Annual Action Plan is the City of Urbana’s budget for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Programs. The Plan also includes budgets for HOME Programs by the Cities of Champaign and Urbana, and Champaign County, which make up the Urbana HOME Consortium.

High Street Closure between Orchard Street and Coler Avenue

Weather permitting, High Street between Orchard Street and Coler Avenue will be closed on Friday, February 21, 2014 to facilitate tree removal.

No thru traffic or on-street parking will be permitted during this time. Access to private driveways will be allowed.

Windsor Road Lane Closures

The following lanes on Windsor Road will be closed starting immediately today until further notice is given by the City of Urbana:

  • Windsor Road westbound outside lane from Vine Street to just west of Race Street
  • Windsor Road eastbound outside lane from Vine Street to just east of Philo Road

Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times on Windsor Road. Work crews will be patching potholes continually on this section of Windsor Road to keep the road open to traffic until the pavement can be permanently reconstructed or rehabilitated. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution while traveling on Windsor Road from Race Street to Philo Road due to deteriorated pavement conditions. Rough Road signs are currently in place. Advisory speed limits signs dropping the speed limit from 40 mph to 30 mph will be in place starting tomorrow February 21st.

Notice of Rescheduled Neighborhood Meeting/Public Hearing

The City of Urbana and the Urbana HOME Consortium (comprised of the City of Urbana, the City of Champaign, and Champaign County) seek citizen input regarding community needs for the preparation of the City of  Urbana & Urbana HOME Consortium Annual Action Plan (AAP) for Fiscal Year 2014-2015. The Annual Action Plan is the City of Urbana’s budget for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Programs, and also includes the budgets for the HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) by the City of Urbana, City of Champaign, and Champaign County.

The neighborhood meeting has been rescheduled to Tuesday, March 4, 2014 @ 6:30pm, Prairie School Library, 2102 East Washington Street, Urbana IL 61801

2013 Sewer Lining Project - Washington Street Closure

As part of the on-going 2013 Sewer Lining Project, Hoerr Construction, Inc. from Peoria, Illinois will be performing sewer lining along Washington Street between Race Street and Vine Street on Friday, February 14, 2014, weather permitting. As a result of this work, Washington Street will be closed to through traffic.

You will be notified via a door hanger brochure if the sanitary sewer that serves your house is being lined. Your patience is appreciated while this work is underway.

Urbana Sidewalk Snow Removal Requirements in Effect

As of 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2014, the Urbana Public Works Director has declared the sidewalk snow and ice removal requirement in effect for the Downtown, University, and South Philo Road snow removal districts.

Due to the winter storm, snow has accumulated to two inches or more on sidewalks. In order to make sidewalks safe for pedestrians, City ordinance requires that public sidewalks within the defined districts be cleared by adjacent property owners within 24 hours after the Public Works Director’s declaration. Sidewalks need to be cleared by 9:30 a.m. on Friday, February 7, 2014. Public sidewalks within these districts which are not in compliance could be cleared by the City at the expense of the adjacent property owner, with additional fines and administrative fees applied.

U-Cycle Routes Delayed Due to Weather

The U-Cycle route will not run on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 due to weather conditions.  Route collections will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week.

To ensure recycling collection,  place recycling carts or bins at the street curb by 7:00 a.m.

Vine Street Lane Closure from Illinois Street to Green Street

The northbound lanes of Vine Street from Illinois Street to Green Street will be closed to thru traffic from 9:00 a.m. until approximately 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 in order to accommodate crane installation of HVAC equipment at the Urbana City Building.

Northbound traffic on Vine Street may take the following detour: Illinois Street east to Urbana Street, Urbana Street north to Green Street, Green Street west to Vine Street.
