McCullough Street Closure

McCullough Street from Oregon Street to California Avenue will be closed today, Monday May 4, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. for a tree removal. No through traffic will be permitted, however residents will have access to their properties at all times.

MCORE Public Open House

The Champaign Urbana Mass Transit District (MTD), the City of Champaign, City of Urbana, and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign applied for and received a $15.7 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Grant for the construction of the Multimodal Corridor Enhancement (MCORE) Project (www.mcoreproject.com) within the University District.  The total cost for the project is estimated at $34.8 million, which includes the $15.7 million grant plus local matching funds estimated at $19.1 million.  An informational meeting is scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at the Alice Campbell Alumni Center (601 South Lincoln Avenue, Urbana, IL) for the purpose of discussing the MCORE project, which consists of the five individual projects listed below:

Project No. 1  Green Street from Wright Street to Busey Avenue

Project No. 2  Green Street from Neil Street to Fourth Street

Lane Closures on Illinois Route 130

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that, weather permitting, work is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 4, 2015 to resurface Illinois Route 130 from Philo, Illinois to Washington Street in Urbana, Illinois. 


This project will include patching and resurfacing of Illinois Route 130.  During this project, traffic on Illinois Route 130 will be reduced to one lane.  While work is ongoing, motorists are reminded to observe all traffic control signs.


The anticipated completion date is August 2015.  Cross Construction is the contractor for this $2.9 million project.


Please slow down and use extreme caution while driving through all work zones.

Notice of Availability for Transitional Housing

The City of Urbana has one (1) opening in its Transitional Housing Program for Homeless Families with Children. Applicants must meet Dept. of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) guidelines for homelessness, have dependent child(ren) under the age of 18 years old, provide a documented source of income and be willing to follow program guidelines and requirements. Applications will be accepted until May 11, 2015 at 5:00pm.

Oregon Street Closure

On Saturday, May 2, 2015 Oregon Street from Goodwin Avenue to Gregory Street/Gregory Place will be closed from 6:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2015 for the Canopy Club Block Party.

North Lincoln Avenue Closure

September 30, 2015 - 5:00pm

North Lincoln Avenue between Oaks Road and Ford Harris Road will be closed effective Monday, April 27, 2015 as road and bridge construction and earth-moving activities on Olympian Drive and North Lincoln Avenue have resumed. This closure is anticipated to last until this fall.


This work is part of the $13,000,000 Olympian Drive improvements between Lincoln Avenue in Urbana (over the Canadian National Railroad tracks) to Apollo Drive in Champaign. This project is funded exclusive with state and federal monies.

University Avenue and Lincoln Avenue Lane Closures

Weather permitting, the outside east bound lane of traffic on University Avenue will be closed between Lincoln Avenue and Busey Avenue beginning Monday, April 20, 2015 at 7:00 a.m. until Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. for short durations to clean and televise the storm sewers. University Avenue will remain open to traffic at all times during the storm sewer cleaning and televising work.


The left turn lane for north bound traffic on Lincoln Avenue at its intersection with University Avenue will also be closed beginning Monday, April 20, 2015 at 7:00 a.m. until Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. for short durations to clean and televise the storm sewers. Lincoln Avenue will remain open to traffic at all times during the storm sewer cleaning and televising work.

Fairlawn Drive Street Closure

Weather permitting, Fairlawn Drive from Patton Place to Eastern Drive will be closed to thru traffic beginning Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 7:00 a.m. until Tuesday, April 22, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. for an emergency sanitary sewer repair. There will be no detour route for this closure.


Access will be maintained to all properties on Fairlawn Drive during the sanitary sewer repair.

Goodwin Avenue Lane Reduction

April 23, 2015 - 7:00am to April 24, 2015 - 6:00pm

Weather permitting, traffic on Goodwin Avenue from Oregon Street to Illinois Street will be reduced to one lane utilizing flaggers from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2015 and from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2015 for Custom Service Crane, Inc. to relocate a boom crane for work at Krannert Center.


Traffic delays are anticipated due to the lane reduction, so motorists are urged to consider using an alternate route.
