Unofficial St. Patrick's Day Information from the Urbana Police Department

The Urbana Police Department will have zero tolerance when responding to calls of loud parties and disorderly and intoxicated subjects. We ask that apartment complexes strictly enforce lease violations and address problems associated with this event.


Some Urbana City Code Violations and Fines to keep in mind:



  • Purchase/Possession/Consumption of Alcohol by Minors- $300

  • Consumption and Possession of Liquor on Public Property- $165

  • Depositing Garbage/Waste on Property of Another- $165

  • Loud Noise Prohibited- $215

  • Allowing a Nuisance Party- $300

It is important that residents be aware of the Illinois Social Host Law (235 ILCS 5/6-16(c))


Individuals can be arrested and face criminal charges for simply allowing or permitting individuals under the age of 21 to drink alcohol at their residence or on their property- even if the individual did not directly supply or provide the underage person with alcohol.

North Mathews Avenue Closure

Weather permitting, Mathews Avenue will be closed between Main Street and University Avenue on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for the installation of cooling units at the University Chiller Plant.


There will be no detour route for this closure.

Urbana Sidewalk Snow Removal Requirements in Effect

At 12:00 pm, Monday, March 2, 2015, the Urbana Public Works Director will declared the sidewalk snow and ice removal requirement in effect for the Downtown, University and South Philo Road snow removal districts.


Due to the winter storm, snow combined with ice has accumulated to two inches or more on sidewalks. In order to make sidewalks safe for pedestrians, City ordinance requires that public sidewalks, within the defined districts, be cleared by adjacent property owners within 24 hours after the Public Works Director’s declaration. Sidewalks need to be cleared by 12:00 pm, Tuesday, March 3, 2015. Public sidewalks within these districts, which are not in compliance, could be cleared by the City at the expense of the adjacent property owner, with additional fines and administrative fees applied.

Public Hearing Regarding the Sale of 908 E. Oregon St.

The City Council of the City of Urbana, Illinois will hold a Public Hearing at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2015, in the Council Chambers of the Urbana City Building, 400 South Vine Street, Urbana, for the purpose of receiving public comment regarding the sale of real estate located at 908 East Oregon, Urbana, Illinois.


Persons with disabilities needing special services or accommodations for this hearing should contact the City of Urbana's Americans with Disabilities Coordinator at 384-2466 or TDY at 384-2447.

West University Avenue Lane Closure

February 17, 2015 - 7:00am to 5:00pm

Ameren will be installing a new gas service line for the Campus Circle Project located at 1010 West University Avenue in Urbana . Weather permitting, the outside west bound lane of traffic on University Avenue will be closed between Goodwin Avenue and Lincoln Avenue on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for the installation of the service line. University Avenue will remain open to traffic at all times during the utility construction work.


The sidewalk on the north side of West University Avenue will also be closed to through pedestrian traffic from Lincoln Avenue to Goodwin Avenue during the utility construction work. Pedestrian access will be maintained to all properties along the north side of West University Avenue.


Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the sidewalk on the south side of West University Avenue at the Lincoln and Goodwin Avenue intersections during the closure.

IDOT Traffic Stop Data Task Force Traffic Stop Impact Town Hall

The City of Urbana's IDOT Traffic Stop Data Task Force Communty Impact Subcommittee will host a town hall meeting on Saturday, February 21, 2015, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Urbana Civic Center, 108 East Water Street.  The Public and the Minority driving population is encouraged to come out and share their stories about how traffic stops have impacted them.

Busey Avenue, Hill Street & Clark Street Closures

Weather permitting, the following streets will be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2014 and on Friday, January 30, 2014 for tree removal work:



  • Busey Avenue from Fairview Avenue to just south of Hill Street

  • Hill Street from Lincoln Avenue to Busey Avenue

  • Clark Street from Lincoln Avenue to Busey Avenue

No thru traffic or on-street parking will be allowed during the road closures, however residents will have access to their properties.

Notice of Public Hearing - Substantial Amendment to Annual Action Plan for FY 2014-2015

The City of Urbana, as lead entity for the Urbana HOME Consortium, is hosting a public hearing in the Urbana City Council Chambers, located at 400 S. Vine Street, Urbana, IL 61801 at 10:00 a.m. Comments are being accepted regarding the proposed substantial amendment to the Fiscal Year 2014-2015 Annual Action Plan regarding the City of Urbana HOME entitlement funding. Details of the proposed amentment are available in the document below. Written comments are also accepted and may be submitted to Kelly Mierkowski, Grants Management Division Manager by email to khmierkowski@urbanaillinois.us or by mail to 400 S. Vine Street, Urbana, IL 61801.

McCullough Street Closure

West Green Street Lane Closure between Goodwin Avenue & Gregory Street

Western Utilities will be potholing for utilities in order to install a new helium gas pipeline on West Green Street. Eastbound traffic on Green Street between Goodwin Avenue and Gregory Street will be reduced to one lane beginning Monday, January 19, 2015 at 7:00 a.m. until Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 5:00 p.m., weather permitting. West Green Street will remain open to traffic at all times during the utility potholing work.

South Goodwin Avenue Lane Shift between Illinois and Oregon Streets

Traffic on Goodwin Avenue between Illinois Street and Oregon Street will be shifted to the parking or bus lanes beginning Monday, January 19, 2015 at 7:00 a.m. until Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 5:00 p.m., weather permitting. South Goodwin Avenue will remain open to through traffic at all times during the utility potholing work.
