City of Urbana Recognizes National Police Week

Date: May 12, 2024 - 12:01am to May 18, 2024 - 11:59pm

On May 13, 2024, at 8 a.m., the Urbana Police Department will have a ceremony recognizing National Police Week.

National Police Week runs from May 12, 2024, to May 18, 2024.  The ceremony will include several speakers and a moment of silence to recognize and honor law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

National Police Week is a collaborative effort of many organizations dedicated to honoring America’s law enforcement community.
