Urbana Middle School Presents: The Music Man Jr.

Date: April 7, 2011 - 7:00pm

Music ManOne of Broadway’s most beloved musicals is coming to Urbana Middle School. Set in Iowa, The Music Man Jr. is an adaptation of Meredith Willson’s classic, funny story about a bygone era and endearing, small-town charm.

The story follows fast-talking salesman Harold Hill as he cons the townspeople of River City into forming a boys’ band. He meets and falls in love with the willful, spinster librarian, Marian Paroo, and chaos ensues as Hill’s credentials are questioned and he is forced to prove himself to the citizens of River City.

Directed by UMS teachers Bethany Schmitt (Chorus) and Erin Lodes (Band and Music Technology), the production is a part of the UMS after-school program, SPLASH (Students Playing and Learning After School Hours). Students began learning the material in November, held auditions, and began rehearsal in January. This particular musical allowed many opportunities for students to shine in both singing and non-singing roles.

Performances will be held in the Urbana Middle School Cafetorium on Thursday, April 7 at 7pm and Saturday, April 9 at 3pm. Admission is $3 for children/students and $5 for adults. Tickets will be available at the door.
