Public Open House Concerning Windsor Road Improvements
The City of Urbana will hold a Public Open House Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Philo Road Church of Christ, 2601 South Philo Road to provide information concerning the upcoming Windsor Road Improvement Project.
The Open House will be conducted on an informal basis; no formal presentation is planned. Exhibits, plans and aerial photography of the proposed improvements will be available for viewing during the entire time. Staff from Hanson Professional Services Inc. and the City of Urbana Engineering Division will be available to discuss the project and answer questions. All persons interested in this project are invited to attend this meeting.
The project consists of replacing the existing concrete pavement in place with a new concrete pavement. The existing four lanes of Windsor Road will remain but the lane widths will be reduced to eleven feet and a five foot grass median will be installed throughout the length of the project, excluding the intersections, to provide increased access control to adjacent properties. The north and south approaches to the Race Street and Philo Road intersections will also be reconstructed.
A new traffic signal with Accessible Pedestrian Signals is proposed to be installed at the Windsor Road and Race Street intersection. Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons will be installed at the Windsor Road and Vine Street crosswalk to Meadowbrook Park to enhance the pedestrian safety at that intersection.
The total project cost is anticipated to cost less than $6,000,000 which will be funded with Federal Surface Transportation Program funds and Local Motor Fuel Tax funds.
Construction of this improvement is expected to begin mid-summer of 2014 and be completed in the fall of 2015. Two-way east-west traffic will be maintained on Windsor Road at all times; however, the Race Street and Philo Road intersections are expected to be closed for periods of time to allow for reconstruction of those intersections.
