2014 Sewer Lining Project
The City of Urbana is upgrading 11,500 lineal feet of sewer pipe to maintain the integrity of the sanitary and storm sewer systems in the city. Beginning Monday, September 22, 2014 through Friday, October 10, 2014, weather permitting, Hoerr Construction, Inc. from Peoria, Illinois will be performing sewer lining at various locations around Urbana. You will be notified via a door hanger brochure if the sanitary or storm sewer that serves your house is being lined.
This sewer lining process relies on trenchless sewer reconstruction technology that does not involve time consuming, expensive, and disruptive open excavations. Instead of digging up and replacing the old pipe, the cured-in-place process provides for the insertion of a special lining inside the old pipe. The new liner creates a watertight, smooth-surfaced and long-lasting pipe within the old sewer.
Maps of the areas affected by sewer lining are available on the City’s website at http://urbanaillinois.us/projects/2014-sewer-lining-project.
One or more travel lanes of a street may be closed at the lining locations to accommodate the Contractor’s equipment and set-up. Generally, lining is completed within one day at the location so any traffic impacts will be temporary.
The Sewer Lining Project is funded by revenues from the Sewer Benefit Tax and Stormwater Utility Fee.
Your patience is appreciated while this work is underway.
