Urbana Schools Celebrate NAAPID
Urbana – Students, families, and staff will celebrate National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID) on Monday, February 9, 2015. All USD #116 schools will have events throughout the day. Below, please find a schedule of select activities that will take place in the schools listed, in celebration of this national event.
King Elementary: King School will host NAAPID Day from 8:15-2:45 p.m. Parents are encouraged to visit their children's classrooms and join staff and teachers for a soul food luncheon in the library from 11:00-12:30 p.m.
Parents will complete a passport during the day to earn a change to win a drawing. Parents must have at least four different locations stamped on their passport to qualify for the drawing. Locations include: Homeroom Class, An ESL Class, A Specialist Teacher, Computer Lab, A Native Language Class, Library, Family Engagement room, Student Education Advocate/SEA office.
Leal Elementary: All Leal parents are invited to eat lunch with their students and listen to stories and poems read by Leal parents and other C-U community members. The literacy resource table will be set-up for families to see suggestions for ways in which they can support their students' literacy development at home.
Urbana High School:
- 12:30-1:15 Guest Speakers, UHS Choir performance (UHS Lecture Hall, rm 2199)
- 1:15-1:25 Tour, suggestions, tips and strategies
- 1:30-2:00 Lunch (UHS Cafeteria)
