The City of Urbana will hold a Public Open House on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Anita Purves Nature Center, located at 1505 North Broadway Avenue, to provide information concerning the upcoming Broadway Avenue Reconstruction Project. The Open House will be conducted on an informal basis; no formal presentation is planned. Exhibits, plans and aerial photography of the proposed improvements will be available for viewing during the entire time. Staff from the City of Urbana Engineering Division, the Urbana Park District and project contractor will be available to discuss the project and answer questions. All persons interested in this project are invited to attend this meeting.

The Broadway Avenue Reconstruction Project has been awarded by the City of Urbana to Feutz Contractors, Inc. from Paris, Illinois. The project award amount is $713,148.05. This project is being funded by a combination of the City Capital Replacement and Improvement Funds and Urbana Park District funds.

The proposed improvements consist of replacing the existing brick pavement with a new concrete pavement from Stebbins Drive to Oakland Avenue. The intersections at Franklin Street, Kerr Avenue, and Chapin Street with Broadway Avenue are also included in this work. An eight foot concrete sidewalk will be constructed for the Urbana Park District along Broadway Avenue from Stebbins Drive to the entrance of Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center.

Construction is expected to begin, weather permitting, August 3, 2015. Construction of the south half of Broadway Avenue will take place first. The roadway portion of the construction will be complete by October 30, 2015. Final seeding and grading may be completed in the spring of 2016.
